Short Summary of Council meeting on 15 April 2025

  



Before the meeting formally started, Mr Chris Beckett attended the parish council meeting to report on progress towards Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) status for the Parish Hall. The process is nearly complete. Discussions centred on concerns that the new organisation could borrow money against the Hall as security. Mr Beckett assured the council that this was not possible since the Hall was not a disposable asset. Also he stated that the Land Registry must say that the Hall is built on charitable land.

PARISH/TOWN COUNCIL ELECTIONS: The deadline for submission of nomination papers for the election of Parish Councillors to South Hill has passed. Only 7 nominations have been received. The list of names has been circulated for display on Notice boards. The election of a councillor to Cornwall Council for the Lynher Electoral Division will take place on Thursday 1 May.

PARISH HALL 60th CELEBRATION 24 MAY: Preparations are well underway for the celebration. Allie Humphries asked that groups in the Parish get involved with the event with help needed to set up the Marquee and with car parking.

GRANTS:  The council approved charitable grants of £50 each to Cornwall Air Ambulance, Citizen’s Advice, St Petrocs, Freddie’s Fibre Friends. As part of the Hall’s 60th celebration SHARE was granted £300 to fund educational activities at the event including energy conservation and climate change 

THE RECREATIONAL FIELD/ PLAY AREA: The stone at ground level reportedly within the cricket area has been removed and the ground will soon be made good. The Willow Arch has been tidied up and mole hills removed. The wooded structures will need preservative in order to prolong their life.    

FOOTPATHS: The Parish Council have been asked by Cornwall Council to comment on proposals to add restricted Byways in two locations in the Parish. The Parish Council were happy to confirm that these paths are used by the public and that there have been no actions taken to prevent the public using these paths. The Parish Council could not provide any documentation relating to the paths.            

COUNCILLORS LEAVING: The Parish Council acknowledged the significant contribution made by the three councillors not seeking re-election, notably Cllr David Skelton, Cllr Wendy Trewin, Cllr Dan Smith. They were thanked for their work over many years for the Parish.

UPCOMING MEETINGS: Arrangements were made for the AGM and Parish meeting on 13 May following the election of Councillors.   The Annual Parish Meeting will take place on 20 May.
